Kennoway Star Hearts v Newtongrange Star

On the back of their first league win of the season KSH were looking to gain another three points as they welcomed Newtongrange Star to Treaton Park for the first time.

A whirlwind start saw Young go on a mesmerising run from his own half. The full back breezed past players with ease as he entered the penalty area only see his effort saved by the Nitten goal-keeper.

Two minutes later a ball deep into the KSH half saw the ball break to Wilson on the edge of the box, with one deft touch the player lofted the ball over Paterson with a sublime finish.

Within minutes Band was racing through on goal only to be denied when Richardson made a last gasp tackle to deny the KSH forward.

The game had a real flow to it with both team`s showing a real desire to attack. M.Gay then zipped in a powerful angled drive that saw McCathie called into action with a good save.

Porteous then went close for the away side as his shot just missed the target.

Kennoway grabbed an equaliser with a sweeping counter attack. Paterson released the ball to Rolland and withing thirty seconds a passing move that involved five players saw Band advance in a wide area, the forward looked up and cut the ball back to M.Gay. The striker on such a rich vein of form made no mistake with a clinical strike. Twenty minutes in and the action was relentless.

The application from both sets of players was just what the supporters from both sides wanted to see. It was an open game where the emphasis was on attack and at the same time played in a hard but fair manner.

With three minutes of the half remaining the ever willing running power of Muir saw the midfielder ghost into the penalty box. He managed to get a touch on the ball before a clumsy challenge from McCathie saw the referee point to the spot. M.Gay took the responsibility and sent the `keeper the wrong way to give his side the lead.

On the stroke of half time things got even better for KSH when the combination of Band and M.Gay again came up trumps. The pace of Band was a great out ball for KSH and the forward raced to the byline again before providing the pass for M.Gay to notch a first half hat trick.
