Kennoway Star Hearts 3 Carnoustie Panmure 3
After last week`s cup success KSH were hoping to finally get their first win in the league against form team Carnoustie. It started well for the home side when a Liam Craig shot from twenty five yards broke to Mathew Gay inside the penalty area, the striker took a touch to control the ball and quickly placed his shot tight to the inside of the post for a clinical finish.
Kennoway were enjoying the bulk of the possession with Collins and M.Gay looking particularly dangerous every time they received the ball in the last third. M.Gay again found some space inside the penalty area ,his shot was saved as the home side turned the screw.
The rampaging runs of winger Craig were causing the Carnoustie defence problems and on the fortieth minute a rash challenge from one of their players saw him receive a straight red card. Two KSH players also received yellow cards as well for remonstrating with the player.
Two minutes from half time a second goal was scored. A McGowan cross from the left was cleared by the Carnoustie defence but the ball arrived at the feet of Johnstone, the midfielder picked out Doig with a pinpoint delivery as the defender launched himself at the ball to score a spectacular header. A well deserved two goal lead as the referee blew for half time. HT 2-0
The second half started in similar fashion, however the goal was for the away side as they stunned the host`s inside the first few minutes of the half. A free kick from the left was played deep into the box where a number of players challenged for the ball, with no clean contact from anyone the ball broke to Paterson sixteen yards out. The defender thundered a shot past Paterson to give the "Gowfers" the lifeline they needed.
After this goal the next ten minutes became rather scrappy with several misplaced passes and a general lull in the previous quality that was on show for both team`s.
Gradually KSH started to create chances again as the likes of Muir and Craig became more involved. With twenty five minutes remaining Muir played a lovely threaded pass to M.Gay inside the right hand side of the box, from an acute angle the striker showed his quality with a slide rule finish across the `keeper and into the far corner.
Breathing space for KSH and M.Gay almost grabbed a hat trick as another effort was blocked.
With fifteen minutes remaining Carnoustie pulled another goal back. A low driven cross from the right saw several players fail to clear the ball, a melee followed with players from both sides scrambling about before a shot from Cook deflected high into the air by Paterson, the ball seemed to take an eternity before it agonisingly crossed the line for a goal.
Paterson went off injured soon after with Page taking his place. The visitors sensed the chance to get something from the game now and the equaliser arrived with just six minutes remaining. A corner was swung into the danger area and Page could not get a clean contact on the ball, the goal gaping Paterson was on hand to knock the ball home.
Overall an action packed game with positives and minuses for both sides. FT 3-3
