Jeanfield v Kennoway Star Hearts Cup Tie

Jeanfield Swifts 0 Kennoway Star Hearts 3

It was a break from league action as KSH travelled up to Perth to face Jeanfield Swifts in this East of Scotland Cup Tie.

The team`s had met a few week`s previously when they fought out a two each draw on league business.

Both team`s were looking to try and get on the winning trail after losses the previous week .

A reshuffle in personal saw Johnstone return to the midfield after a few week`s on the sidelines due to injury. The away side looked composed and in control in the opening stages of the match, M.Gay broke free in the inside left channel after five minutes before drilling a low shot inches past the `keeper`s left hand post.

Another attack for KSH saw Craig and Muir link up before the latter hit his shot firmly but unfortunately straight at Mitchell.

Jeanfield went close on the twentieth minute when a free kick from distance was tipped over the crossbar by Paterson.

The match was pleasing on the eye as both team`s tried to get the ball down and make passes. Another shot from distance saw Paterson again make a save as the game entered the final ten minutes of the half.

Rolland then saw a header from a Johnstone free kick narrowly miss the target as Kennoway pushed for the opening goal.

M.Gay again evaded his marker only to see his effort beaten away by the imposing Mitchell between the goalposts.

The breakthrough arrived on the forty second minute when Johnstone anticipated a ball out of defence. The midfielder robbed Gunnion and raced through on goal before calmly placing the ball past Mitchell. HT 0-1

The second half started in the same fashion for KSH as they doubled their lead five minutes in. Collins,Muir and Craig all combined before a final through ball from Muir allowed Craig to finish with a well placed shot low into the net from ten yards.

The next fifteen minutes the away side were firmly in control as they pressed the ball as they played with a confidence that a two goal lead gives you.

Another enterprising link up in the midfield saw M.Gay again denied by Mitchell when the `keeper somehow clawed the ball to safety. C.Gay was next up as a chance fell to the midfielder inside the box only to see Mitchell produce another fine save.

The home side were not going to lie down and they had a succession of set pieces as the upped the pressure.

Jeanfield had the perfect opportunity to grab a goal back when a cross from the right caused chaos in the KSH penalty area, the Jeanfield striker somehow hit the crossbar when the goal looked certain.

Several substitutions from both team`s were made as the game entered the last fifteen minutes.

Jeanfield started to have more of the ball but a reshuffled KSH back four were resolute protecting their clean sheet.

Shaw was unlucky not to add a third goal for his team as he rounded Mitchell but could only hit the outside of the net as the angle became to acute. The wide man did provide an assist with two minutes remaining when another run and effort at goal fell nicely for Binnington to sidefoot home from seven yards. FT 0-3
